On Tuesday, 28th May 2024, Bethel Network joined hands with Laikipia County to commemorate the annual Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. This significant event, hosted by the Ministry of Health and the Laikipia County Government, underscores the importance of promoting access to dignified sanitary products and fostering a supportive environment for menstrual hygiene management.
Celebrating #MHMDay2024
Menstrual Hygiene Management Day is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the challenges that women and girls face regarding menstruation. This year’s theme, “#PeriodFriendlyKenya,” reflects our collective goal to create an environment where menstruation is managed safely, hygienically, and with dignity.
Collaborative Efforts for a Common Goal
The event was a collaborative effort, bringing together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Bethel Network, and other partners. Our shared mission is to ensure that every girl and woman in Kenya has access to the resources and support they need to manage their menstruation with dignity and without shame.
Activities and Highlights
The day’s activities were diverse and aimed at both celebrating and educating. Workshops and interactive sessions were held to educate attendees about menstrual health and hygiene practices. These sessions provided valuable information on the importance of using sanitary products and maintaining hygiene during menstruation.
One of the highlights of the day was the distribution of sanitary products to women and girls in need. This initiative ensures that lack of access to sanitary products does not hinder their daily activities, particularly school attendance for young girls. By providing these essential items, we are taking a significant step towards ensuring that every girl can manage her menstruation with dignity.
A Message of Support and Empowerment
The presence and participation of the Ministry of Health and other partners emphasized the importance of a united approach to addressing menstrual hygiene issues. By working together, we can create a supportive and informed community that recognizes and addresses the challenges associated with menstruation.
Looking Ahead: A Period-Friendly Kenya
As we commemorate #MHMDay2024, we are reminded of the ongoing efforts needed to achieve a period-friendly Kenya. Bethel Network is committed to continuing our work in this area, advocating for better menstrual health management, and ensuring that no girl or woman is left behind due to menstruation-related challenges.
Join Us in Our Mission
We invite everyone to join us in this vital mission. By spreading awareness, supporting initiatives that provide sanitary products, and advocating for menstrual health education, we can make a lasting impact. Together, we can ensure that menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, work, or personal growth.
Thank you for being part of the Bethel Network community and for your continued support in our journey towards a period-friendly Kenya.
