Food Security and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Project (FOSECCAMP)

Based in Maragua, Murang’a County, this project is empowering selected small-scale farmers and farmer groups on agro-ecological practices to gain skills to help them thrive on both rural and semi urban farming environments. The project is also providing a solid foundation for creating resilient local food webs that can survive challenges and foster community spirit better than large-scale industrialized farms. With support from Caritas, our project officer working with technical advisors and community animators have been conducting training to promote access to food and basic necessities at the household level to the identified farmers whose primary livelihood activity is agriculture. Through adoption of sustainable approaches, combination of classroom theory and practical field work sessions

Project Achievements

  • Trained farmers on how to make organic pesticides and manures to maintain soil fertility, as well as farm layout, design and construction.
  • Established a community tree nursery to ensure constant supply of over 20 different species of food crops, fruit and non-fruit trees to be planted.
  • Assisted the farmers to form associations to undertake collective bargaining and add value to their farm produce to increase income from the farm produce.
